Octolively

April 22, 2012

Great new kit from Evil Mad Science called Octolively that gives you eight reactive LEDs.
It has seven different modes and four levels of sensitivity.    Our favorite modes is number four, appropriately called Sparkle.

The kit was easy to assemble even if it did have a lot of soldering.  Just to give you an idea, the chip socket alone has 40 pins that need to be soldered.

My one minor quibble with the kit is that the power jack did not fit the power cord I had bought and I needed to use a different power jack.  Luckily I had a spare one on hand that fit fine. For some reason the pole in the middle of the supplied power jack was just a little too fat.

Other than that, this is an excellent kit.  Not quite sure what I will do with it yet, but will probably put some frosted plastic over it and hang it on the wall for now.

We bought the warm white LED kit. You can get other colors like blue, red, green. Buy it direct at Evil Mad Science Octolively or from Adafruit
